12 INSIGHTS FROM
EMERGE U

3 MIN READ, MAR 11, 2021
The mission of EMERGE conference has always been connecting great minds and helping projects to collaborate with the right people. In 2021 EMERGE is running online again, as well as its side events. And we've already launched them!

The first one – EMERGE U: ACCEPTED - a free online bootcamp for startups took place on 1 – 5 March 2021, gathering 167 founders and 10 experts from the tech industry.

The next opportunity for startups from the EMERGE Universe is EMERGE CHALLENGE! EMERGE CHALLENGE is a startup pitching competition at EMERGE Conference that will take place 12 – 14 May 2021. See all the details at the end of this blog post!

EMERGE U bootcamp's mission was to help an early-stage startup pave its way into incubators, accelerators, or pitch competitions. Therefore, the bootcamp experts shared practical insights and their own experience in the field.

And here's what you shouldn't forget:

EMERGE U speakers' quick guidelines for successful living for an early-stage startup

  • The cost of not being in a startup hub is massive. Relocate if you can. Cities with a well-developed startup ecosystem have a network effect.
  • Get to know your investors prior to fundraising. Learn their expertise and industries they invest in. If you don't do it in the very beginning it is gonna be too late then.
  • Don't be shy – have an ambitious vision!
  • Remember: one time the trend on the market goes very high, soon it goes very fast down. Watch out!
  • Some food for thought: if you are not quitting your job for a startup, maybe it is not the right time for raising investments.
  • Never forget to talk to your customers: match the product's features and your target audience.
  • Make sure the trials you made before launching the product are not flawed.

  • Make your shared deck easy to read, end to end. Define your concept and positioning as clear as possible, make it as engaging as you can. The critical part is a hook (smth wrong is happening, it needs to be fixed – with your product).
  • When pitching, be honest about your accomplishments (yes, lying won't do good, surprise-surprise) and present reasonable figures.

  • And a little bit on PR... Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are a must. Follow relevant journalists on Twitter and tag them.
  • LEARN AND PRACTISE ENGLISH. Ahem, sorry.
  • Define who's a speaker (or a few ones) among your teammates. Realise that you're the newsmakers, babes!
